Religious Activism

I hope (and assume) this is the beginning of a week-long series. We have allowed our belief in religious tolerance to be so all inclusive that we can't mention a candidate and his religion in the same breath. However religions that proselytize deserve to be discussed. As Trudeau points out here, the very concept of proselytizing runs counter to the concept of tolerance for the views of others.

So Elder/Bishop/Governor Romney's activities as a missionary (religious activist) in the past need to be considered as part of the present person.

Certainly agree with your view on religious tolerance, we keep going back to the "founding fathers" on this one. It seems they came to this country for religious freedom...theirs, not yours.

Would be interested in balancing out the satire with some of those Trudeau cartoons ridiculing President Obama.

Don't conflate religious tolerance with religious freedom. True, the original Mass. Bay colonists and the Pilgrims that came after them were only concerned with their own religious freedom, but I have no gripe with the founding fathers in that regard. But this post is about the...for lack of a better phrase...politically correct tolerance that forbids discussion of a religion and what it espouses. And I maintain that any religion (or adherent thereof) that systematically proselytizes is fair game for criticism.

If you think Trudeau only ridicules Republicans, you've not been paying attention, and I'm not going to make it my mission to educate you. But what if he did? A fair criticism is a fair criticism regardless of where it comes from.

You are correct. I do not pay attention to Gary Trudeau.
